Laser Tattoo Removal for permanent makeup & small body tattoos

After almost 11 years in the Permanent Makeup industry, Lucy has built up a wealth of knowledge in pigments, colour theory and how pigments fade and break down over the years.  Permanent Makeup and body art tattoos can be a personal expression of a moment in time, but feelings, fashions, preferences and circumstances can change and that’s why Lucy decided to offer solution for those seeking laser tattoo removal.

Laser tattoo removal uses concentrated laser beams to break down the pigments in your skin. These pigments are then naturally expelled by your body by your immune system, ultimately fading the tattoo over time. It’s a clinically proven, safe and effective way to erase a tattoo. Whether you need a clean slate for personal, professional reasons, your tastes have evolved, or you just want to change the shape and style of your eyebrows, Lucy is committed to providing you with the care, respect, and confidentiality you need during this process.

Laser tattoo removal is a non-invasive procedure that leverages the body’s natural processes to gradually fade the tattoo. The procedure can target specific colours and areas, allowing for precision that leaves surrounding skin unaffected. Lucy is able to treat tattoos of various sizes, locations, and colour depths. It is a safe procedure with minimal side effects. One of the greatest benefit is the freedom it provides: – it allows individuals to move past old choices, clear professional hurdles, or make room for new art and permanent makeup.

Permenant Makeup Removal

Styles, preferences, and even skin tones can change over time. Lucy can provide a tailored solution for permanent makeup removal using state-of-the-art laser technology. The laser procedure targets the embedded pigments in your skin, gradually breaking them down so they can be naturally eliminated by your body, thus gently and effectively erasing the permanent makeup. This scientifically backed approach ensures safe, efficient, and precise removal, whether you want to modify your look or completely remove the makeup. Lucy is committed to supporting you through this process, treating you with the utmost care, respect, and confidentiality.

What to expect

This is a 15 minute free appointment where Lucy will go through everything with you and carry out a patch test with the laser machine in one spot. You must fill in your consent forms before attending this appointment and you must have read through everything on the website so you come to your appointment prepared.

2

Planning

You will need to wait 5 days for patch test area to recover before continuing with treatment. Let Lucy know of any abnormal reaction. Remember to stay clear of the sun in the lead up to your appointment and plan in advance to not expose tattoo removal site to sun between sessions.

3

Treatment

Laser treatments can take from 1 – 10 appointments depending on a few factors including skin type, immune system, health, age of the tattoo and many more. Keep an open mind when it comes to how many sessions you may need. When booking multiple sessions 6 – 10 weeks minimum is needed between appointments to allow the time for your immune system to break down the pigments and wash them out of the body.

Before your appointment

Try hard to manage your expectations

Laser tattoo removal is successful – most of the time. There are circumstances that could change that, and sometimes a tattoo cannot be removed entirely. In those cases, it will be faded to something much less visible, but you will have a remaining image on your skin or old permanent makeup. Before committing to starting your tattoo removal journey please read through everything here so that you come to your appointment with a good understanding of the process.

This will not be a one appointment treatment

You most probably will need multiple treatments. You may see changes after only one session, but more likely together with Lucy, will work out a treatment plan that spans months, sometimes longer depending on so many factors. Anywhere from 5 to 10 treatments could be necessary.

Professional tattoos are usually easier to remove than amateur ones

Tattoos from amateurs and “scratchers” are often much more difficult to treat. This is because professional tattoos, are very evenly inked, which makes the laser treatment more predictable. Conversely, amateur tattoos have an uneven distribution of ink beneath the skin, which can be a tricky obstacle. It’s also more common to find minor scar tissue at the site of amateur tattoos which can hinder the removal process.

Location and size of tattoo matter

Location of the tattoo on the body will affect your tattoo removal treatment based on vascular supply and healing ability. Tattoos further from your heart will be harder to remove as blood flow helps you heal. Ankle tattoos are notoriously hard to remove whereas upper body tattooed are easier.

How it feels

Laser tattoo removal does hurt a bit. Less so on permanent makeup. The sensation feels like a rubber band snapping against the skin, which although not wonderful, it isn’t exactly agony either. The bottom line is that if you can stand the pain of having a tattoo, you will be able to take the pain of removal.

Quickly does it

The treatment itself is extremely quick. It takes the time that it takes the practitioner to ‘trace’ the laser over your tattoo, which for most tattoos will take a couple of minutes at most. Seconds when its eyebrows. When you consider that having a tattoo can take 20 times longer than having removal session, it suddenly seems far more manageable. You will be offered a cooling bag which helps to slightly numb the area before the laser is applied to minimise the discomfort and for afterwards too. The first laser session is always the worst as this is when the pigment is at its most prominent. With each session there is less discomfort.

Smoking

Keep in mind that if you are a smoker, Cigarettes slow your body’s healing processes, and will increase the risk of complications that could lead to scarring or infection. If you can’t stop completely, consider cutting down as much as possible.

Stay out of the sun

Laser tattoo removal takes place over many months so it’s would be a bad time to work on your all-over tan. If you must enjoy the sun then at least keep the area being treated covered completely with clothing or use a tattoo cover. Tanned skin is prone to adverse reactions. You will need to keep the tattoo out of the sun for at least four weeks before your laser tattoo removal session so please plan accordingly. Tanning after laser causes blisters which can lead to scarring.

Take pain killers

DO NOT take aspirin or ibuprofen but Painkillers could help alleviate your discomfort if you take it before each laser session. Aspirin and Ibuprofen will both cause you to bruise after treatment so avoid these medications around the time of procedure. Ask for anaesthetic creams and cold compresses to the tattooed area before the procedure begins if needed.

Healing time

The total healing time after laser treatment is about 4 to 8 weeks. But, what you do during those weeks can increase or decrease the healing process. Healing times vary depending on the type of treatment, the strength of your immune system, and how closely you follow your aftercare. Just by staying hydrated and keeping your immune system healthy you can speed up the process by several weeks!

Blistering

Blistering and scabbing are natural side effects of the healing process. It’s tempting to pop and pick at your skin. Avoid this at all cost. Opening the wound not only increases the risk of infection but also prolongs the healing process. Allow scabs to fall off and blisters to drain on their own.

Immediately after treatment

Following laser removal, the tattooed skin may seem “frosted,” giving it a white powdery appearance. Frosting completely covers the tattoo making it appear like it has disappeared. This is a perfectly natural side effect and will for up to an hour, after an hour frosting will subside and you will be able to see your tattoo again. During the first week after the laser treatment, your body will continue to remove and digest the ink and you will see the tattoo slowly start to fade.
